Will An Animated Film Ever Win Best Picture

A dozen animated films are tied at two Oscars apiece. Before 2001 when the academy introduced the Best Animated Feature category, that meant victories for Best Score and Best Vocal. That was the case for "Dumbo" (1941), "The Fiddling Mermaid" (1989), "Beauty and the Beast" (1991) "Aladdin" (1992), "The King of beasts King" (1994), and "Pocahontas" (1995).

Since 2002, double wins have almost always meant victories for the new category of All-time Blithe Feature and music: "Toy Story iii" (2010), "Frozen" (2013), and "Coco" (2017) won Blithe Characteristic and Song, while "Upwardly" (2009) and "Soul" (2020) claimed Blithe Feature and Score. The just  animated film ever to win anywhere else was "The Incredibles" (2004), which claimed Best Sound Editing to get along with its Animated Characteristic prize.

So what gives? Granted, you wouldn't expect an animated movie to compete in fields like costumes, makeup and hairstyling, or cinematography, fields that strictly accolade achievements in alive-activeness films (though stop-motility movies like "Kubo and the 2 Strings" really accept received industry recognition for costume blueprint). Even so, blithe films nevertheless employ film editors, sound designers, production designers, writers, directors,  and visual effects artists whose work could be recognized more than often.

Despite the broad range of eligible achievements in blithe films, there has remained an impenetrable wall between them and most Oscar categories. And even when films do intermission out of their usual niche to receive multiple nominations, they never win in those other races. "Dazzler and the Beast," "Up," and "Toy Story three" were all nominated for Best Picture, but they still only won 2 Oscars in the aforementioned categories. And 9 animated movies were nominated for their screenplays, but none of them won. All this despite many animated films beingness among the most critically and financially successful films of their given years.

So what will it take for an animated film to finally crack iii or more Oscars? Or for one to finally be nominated for directing or fifty-fifty interim (there aren't too many All-time Supporting Actor winners who have had the lasting cultural affect of Robin Williams'south Genie in "Aladdin").
